Teaching
Çağla teaches on nationalism, global governance and international cooperation, and welcomes students whose questions cross the borders between peace research, memory studies and comparative politics.
Her teaching draws directly on her research. The courses move between the theory of nationalism and the concrete politics of remembering, and students work with primary material such as party programmes, commemorations and public statements.
Supervision
Students writing bachelor’s or master’s theses on memory politics, nationalism or reconciliation, particularly in the Western Balkans, Turkey and the South Caucasus, are welcome to get in touch with a short description of their topic.
Courses
Nationalism in the Era of Globalization
Lecturer
Why has nationalism not withered under globalisation but been reshaped by it? The course reads classic and contemporary theories of nations and nationalism against current cases: ethnonational mobilisation, diaspora politics, memory and the politics of recognition.
Global Governance
Lecturer
An introduction to how the world is governed in the absence of a world government: international organisations, regimes and norms, and the actors that contest them. Cases include peacebuilding, transitional justice and the governance of contested pasts.
International Cooperation and Integration
Lecturer
The course examines why states cooperate, how integration deepens or stalls, and what regional projects such as the European Union mean for conflict, enlargement and the politics of the past in candidate states.
